As election season heats up in the Philippines, it is important to reflect on the state of politics in our country. While the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has presented unique challenges for campaigning and voting, it is disturbing to see many Filipinos disregarding public health guidelines in their enthusiasm for their chosen candidates.

But beyond this, it is concerning to see the extent to which political views can divide friends and families. As a proud supporter of a particular candidate, I have always made my views known on social media. However, I would never dream of cutting ties with someone simply because they support a different candidate.

It is important to remember that the candidates themselves will not be with us in our daily lives, through the ups and downs that we experience. We must rely on the support of our friends and loved ones to get us through difficult times. No matter what color or party they support, these relationships are infinitely more valuable than any political victory.

As we engage in political discourse, we must do so with respect for the opinions of others. While we may have strong convictions about the platforms of our preferred candidates, we must also recognize that others may hold different perspectives. The ability to engage in civil discourse and debate is a hallmark of a healthy democracy, and we must not let our political differences undermine the bonds that hold us together as a society.

In conclusion, as we approach the upcoming election, let us all remember to be respectful of each other’s opinions and beliefs. We must prioritize our relationships with friends and family above our political allegiances, and work towards building a more united and cohesive society. Let us all strive to be better citizens, and promote the values of respect, empathy, and understanding in all our interactions with others.
