A New Chapter: Luke Moves Out for College at the University of Arizona

This past weekend was a big one for our family. Luke officially moved into his new apartment at The Seasons in Tucson, just a few minutes away from the University of Arizona where he’ll be starting his college life.

We left Willcox in two cars. I was driving with my dad in the passenger seat and Rosalie beside me, while Luke rode with his sister Khezia and our good friend April. It’s just about an hour’s drive, but it felt like more than that — almost like we were crossing into a new chapter of our lives.

When we pulled up to The Seasons, it hit me. Luke isn’t moving into a dorm — he’s moving into a real apartment, with his own space, and what made it even better was knowing he’ll be living with four of his closest high school friends. Five of them together under one roof, starting college side by side. As parents, that gave us so much comfort. At least we know he won’t be alone, and he’ll have the company of friends he grew up with.

The move itself was a mix of hard work and laughter. April was a huge help carrying the heavy stuff (and making jokes while doing it), Khezia kept teasing her brother about surviving without mom’s cooking, and Rosalie made sure his room was fixed up neatly before we left — in true mom fashion. My dad, as always, was there with quiet advice, giving Luke little reminders about responsibility and independence.

It didn’t take long before the empty apartment started looking like a place Luke could really call home. Still, there were moments where I found myself just watching him, realizing how fast time has flown. One day you’re teaching him to ride a bike, the next you’re helping him move into his own place.

The drive back to Willcox without him felt different. Same one hour, same road, but quieter somehow. That’s the part of parenting no one really prepares you for — the letting go.

We’re proud of you, Luke. Excited for everything ahead of you, and comforted knowing you’re starting this new journey surrounded by good friends. This is your time to grow, to learn, and to build your own story. And no matter where you are, home will always be here waiting.
