The Sad Truth About Going to the USA as a MedTech (But Something You Need to Hear)

You know, minsan talaga ang sakit sa dibdib pag-usapan, pero kailangan nating ilabas.
Let’s talk about the sad truth behind going to the USA as a MedTech — specifically the ₱10k scam culture a lot of Filipino applicants are falling into.

I’ve seen it. You’ve seen it. Maybe you even know someone who paid it.
And honestly? It shouldn’t be happening.

The Reality Nobody Wants to Admit

For many MedTechs in the Philippines, going to the U.S. feels like the golden ticket — better pay, better opportunities, better quality of life.
Pero ito ang problema:
Some agents are charging $10,000 just to “get” you an offer.

Yes. Ten. Thousand. Dollars.
Para lang makapasok.
Para lang ma-endorse.

And you know what’s worse?
These “agents” are already being paid by the hospitals in the U.S.
Meaning, kumikita na sila doon…
Kumikita pa sila sa’yo.

Double dipping.
Taking advantage.
And Filipinos hoping for a better life are the ones paying the price.

It Hits Deep Because… It Could Be Avoided

I get it — when you’re tired of low salary, short-staffed shifts, and endless duties, you’re willing to pay anything just to move forward.
Pero hindi talaga dapat ganito.

Hospitals in the U.S. pay legitimate agencies recruitment fees directly.
You, the applicant, should not be charged $10k just to be considered.

But because many don’t know their rights — especially bago pa lang sa process — the system keeps going.
And some agencies?
Alam nilang desperado ang tao.
Alam nilang “American Dream” ang puhunan mo.
So they take advantage.

Here’s the Hard Truth

If someone is charging you:

✔️ $10k for a job offer

✔️ $8k “processing fee”

✔️ “Placement fee” for a U.S. hospital

Run.
That’s not an opportunity — that’s exploitation dressed as hope.

But Here’s the Good News

There ARE legit agencies.
There ARE hospitals hiring directly.
There ARE pathways that don’t drain your savings or bury you in debt.

You just need the right information…
and the right people guiding you.

So Why Am I Sharing This?

Because too many Filipinos suffer quietly.
Too many are embarrassed to speak up.
Too many think paying $10k is “normal” — when it absolutely isn’t.

If you’re reading this right now, I want you to remember:

👉 Your dream doesn’t have to cost you everything.
👉 Your American journey shouldn’t start in debt.
👉 You don’t need to buy opportunity — you just need to be prepared for it.

My Final Word for Today

Let’s keep telling these stories.
Let’s keep calling out the systems that prey on our kababayans.
And let’s keep lifting each other up — because the journey to the U.S. shouldn’t start with fear or financial stress.

It should start with hope, information, and real support.
